History

Cooinda opened its doors in 1969, to men and women who, through age or circumstance could not care for themselves at home and needed to be housed in comfort and looked after with love and care.

Cooinda meaning "Happy Resting & Meeting Place" was the cumulation of an idea developed by a number of citizens and the service clubs of Benalla who first met in 1965 to explore the opportunity of providing citizens of Benalla and the surrounding rural community with a first class aged care facility.
